Technology developed out of constraint has always been a source of fascination for me, much more than what is created out of environments with ample resources. This is a lot of the magic of NASA, being able to see what humans can confined by various pressures and obstinate laws of the universe.

Geeta Dayal, an experimental music and technology journalist (whose work you should absolutely follow and support), tweeted about old-school computer fonts and it brought back a lot of nostalgia and inspiration.

Further down on the discussion, she posted a link to this repository of 8-bit system fonts, with some history and download links. These are not exactly beautiful typographic works of the free-roaming creative spirit, but they accomplish what they need to with the resources they had, and the look feels timeless.
